The Solar Regatta Club!!

The annual Northern California Solar regatta club is one of the most competitive events in boating. SMUD has sponsored this event for the past years. The boats will take off on May 16, 2014, from 8am to 4pm at the Rancho Seco recreational area. Also the teams may test their boat a day before the actual race so they can get it to go as fast as it can go. You may not use wind or any other energy to power the boat. It must be a solar powered. The students will have to be from 7th to 12th grade. Before the actual race starts, every boat must be inspected and tested to see if it will float. If the boat does not float you will not be able to compete in this event.
The race will be judged on slalom, speed, endurance, presentation, technical, boat design, sustainability, and artistic design. I interviewed Tyler S. about what he thought of the solar regatta boat LDV is making. He said, “I think the LDV boat won’t sink and they might be able to win the race if they go fast enough.” He also added that it would be a tough race to win competing against the other schools. But overall LDV looks like they have a fast boat and will be able to finish the race in the top three.
