The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games was a very popular movie when it was first made which was in 2013. It still is I guess, but there has been a new Hunger Games movie- Catching Fire- which is also very popular. These movies are based on the best-selling books by Suzanne Collins: Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mocking-jay. Many people enjoyed both watching the movies and reading the thrilling and detailed books.

Hunger Games is set in a futuristic world that has split up into 12 Districts: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12. Each District has a specialty that they produce. For example, 12 is a coal mining District, 11 is a farming District, 4 is a fishing District, etc. Every year, there is a reaping which chooses a total of 24 12-18 years olds, one boy and one girl from each faction, to fight to the death in an arena. This is called the Hunger Games. But before I get too much into that, let’s talk about the plot of the first Hunger Games movie.

The movie starts out in District 12 where Katniss, the main character, lives and it shows how poor people are living there. Then, it goes to Katniss who went outside the fence that encloses them at the back of the district and goes there to hunt, but is rudely interrupted by her friend ,Gale, they talk for a while, but then they go back to the district for the reaping. Katniss’s sister, Prim[12], name gets called to be the female tribute for district 12, but Katniss volunteers as tribute instead to protect her. Then, a boy named Peeta Mellark is called for the male tribute. They travel to the city, which is where the president lives, to go prepare and do the arena battle. They go into the arena and they sound the horn that signals that the Hunger Games has begun and right away, 12 people are killed. Katniss goes into the forrest to seek shelter and spends the night in a tree. Days go by and almost each day, at least one person is killed. The Hunger Games finally ends and Katniss and Peeta are both the victors because they threatened to kill themselves so that there would be no victor at all, normally there is one, but the head game-maker stops them and announces that they are the champions. So that is the very basic plot of this great movie that I really enjoyed watching. But let’s see what Megan C.  thought about this movie!

Me: Did you like the movie? Why or why not?

Megan C.: Um, the movie was ok, I just had high expectaiontions. All the characters that were needed were there, it was just some of the changes in the story I didn’t like. But the movie was pretty good.

Me: Who is your favorite character?

Megan C.: Clove because she is pretty and cool and good at fighting.



Me: What is your favorite part in the movie?

Megan C.: Uh, when Rue dies, it’s just nice and touching.

Me: What age groups would recommend this movie to?

Megan C.: Above eight years old I guess because there is violence and kissing. gdjfgwjfg In my opinion, I thought that the movie was very good, but at little graphic and gory. It was still a movie that I really enjoyed watching and I think you should go watch it if you enjoy lot’s of action, a little romance, and if you like movies with a laugh here and there!
